“OK, Boomer!” , “Ok Boomer!” , “OK Vroomer!”… since 2019, these expressions have flourished on social media, stickers, and also in oral conversations. What do they mean?
The people of Lyon may have noticed some “OK Boomer!” stickers placed in the streets of the city during the campaign for the metropolitan and municipal elections. This expression and its variations are starting to be invited into conversations, debates, and on social media.
“OK, Boomer!” or “OK mooker!” means “Accept baby-boomer” or “Still talking Baby Boomer,” referring to those born between 1945 and the late 1960s. But behind this short expression, there is a much deeper meaning for those born from the 1980s onwards. “Ok, boomer!” could be summarized as: “Your generation experienced full employment, consumed without limits, didn’t take care of the planet, and you still want to explain to us what we should do? You have failed. Let’s manage now.”

An expression that has gone viral
The expression is said to have emerged following a video on the social network TikTok, but it was popularized on November 5, 2019. On that day, New Zealand MP Chloe Swarbrick discusses the issue of zero carbon legislation by 2050. An older MP continues to interrupt the 25-year-old woman who has gone viral with an “OK Boomer.”
Its variation “OK Vroomer!” which means “Still talking motorist” appeared in turn on social media at the end of 2019, especially promoted by cyclists against drivers.
